I was in the library of Northbrook College, doing my Art Foundation
When I found a copy of the The 2003 Creative Circle Honors
On those pages were
Guinness ‘Surfer’
The Big Issue ‘BINGO’
John West ‘Bear’
I knew there and then this is what I wanted to do.
I stole it. And I still have it.
Since then I have been taught by some of the best to ever do it.
And in that time I’ve made some work that I’m really proud of
Walked with Dua Lipa on a beach
Pissed off the EFL with Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney
Made the highest scoring Outdoor ad since records began
Started a new Christmas tradition with Steve Rogers
Started a non for profit beer company
Won Ad of the Year two years running
A quiver of arrows and- what’s the collective noun for circles? A polo of circles?
Noms for Lions, awards for sharks and all sorts of other animal based trophies.
And yet
I still have this unsatiated hunger
That naive
Puppy dog enthusiasm
That every new brief
Could be The One
To create something special
Memorable
Iconic
Work that is as adored by people as it is revered by judges
So if that sounds good to you
Or if you just want some advice
Say hello
To a copywriter with a design degree
and creative director at VCCP London
Wondering what would have happened
If I’d picked up a book about fishing
My favourite ads
Stella ‘Priests’
FedEx ‘Whee’
Dixons ‘The Last Place You Want to Go’
Old Spice ‘Experience’
Johnsonville ‘Grandma’
Bic ‘Jimi Hendrix’
John Smiths ‘Monsters’
